A joint mission of the World Bank and the Federal government was in Katsina to inspect NEWMAP projects in Katsina state.

Part of the mission includes the Country Director, the Task Team Leader and the National Project Coordinator

The Government and people of Katsina state expressed their joy and satisfaction with the stormwater drainage Management work executed at Jibia, Malumfashi and Katsina town Local Government areas.

According to Governor Masari, “It’s a great milestone after the terrible experience of the  2018 flood disaster that claimed so many lives and property and rendered many homeless in Jibia.”

Alhaji Bello Masari urged the leadership of the benefiting communities  to take ownership of the investments and ensure that members of the  communities refrain  dumping refuse in drainages and other water ways as water and dampness does not augur well with mud structures

Alhaji Masari pleaded with the World Bank to consider constructing an earth dam where the storm water contained would be channelled for irrigation purposes, as it will create job opportunities for the teaming populace especially the youth and the women which will significantly improve the livelihood of the citizenry.

Earlier speaking the Country Director (CD)World Bank Mr. Shubham Chaudhury disclosed that they are in the State to see the projects executed under the NEWMAP in Katsina.

Mr. Shubham further stated that the World Bank is happy to have been able to support in the construction of the project through Katsina Government to ensure that lives and property of the affected communities are safeguarded.

He lamented the challenges people experienced during rainy season, even though it’s a blessing but it turned out to be roller coaster experience due to the negative aftermath that usually follows whenever it rained heavily.

The Country Director expressed satisfaction with the Project and called on the communities to take ownership and ensure sustainability of all investments.
