The Kano State Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso called on beneficiaries at the training organised by Kano State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Kano-NEWMAP) to be good ambassadors of the Project by sharing the knowledge and experience gain with other members of their various communities.
The Commissioner made the call today when declaring open the one day workshop on “Promotion of Climate Smart Agriculture” at Zainab Hall of the Royal Tropicana Hotel Kano.
The training, which was organized for irrigation farmers from five(5) Project priority communities of Fajewa in Takai, Yansabo in Tofa, Yartiti in Shanono, Dawan-kaya in Makoda and Kamanda in Kiru local government areas, also provided a support package for each participant.
The support package contains a watering pump, planter, pesticides, six different packet of improved seeds, fertiliser both (urea and mpk)among others.
Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso therefore, urged them to make the best use of the opportunity as it cames around very rarely.
Speaking earlier, the State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shuaibu recalled that among the series of trainings given by the Project to its communities, the one held today was the continuation of the training given some months back on “Sustainable Land and Water Management Practices” and there after, participants share success story from the previous training.
Alhaji Musa Shuaibu also said that participants were identified from the proposed sites where Water conservation structures and provision of minor irrigation facilities will be provided to train them on smart agricultural practices to maximize benefit derivable from the facilities after constructed.
Dr. Ja’afar Umar presented a paper on “Improved Irrigation Techniques Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture” while Dr. Rufa’i Usman Ahmad facilitated on Sustainable Land and water best practices for combating land degradation.
