Plateau state government has signed a contract for the execution of civil works at the Mangu main market gully erosion intervention site located in Mangu LGA of the state.
The contract was signed between the Plateau state Nigeria erosion and Watershed Management project (NEWMAP) on behalf of the state government and Apex Project Limited.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held at the conference hall of the Cabinet Office at the Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat in Jos yesterday (20/07/2020), the Head of Service, Mr Izam Azi stated that the contract was the product of a partnership between the World Bank, Federal Government and the State government through a counterpart funding arrangement.
While expressing optimism on the execution of the project, Azi said the state government was determined to control erosion and land degradation in the state.
Azi noted that Governor Lalong is very interested in what NEWMAP was doing to tackle the menace of erosion in the state called on the construction company to execute the job according to specifications and timeline.
In his remark, the plateau state Commissioner of environment, Honourable Usman Idi Yakubu said that the contract signing was historic because on completion of the project, the plight of the people will be alleviated
He said the state government under the leadership of Governor Simon Bako Lalong expect a lot of commitments from the contractor.
Speaking earlier, the project Coordinator, plateau state Nigeria erosion and Watershed Management project (NEWMAP), Engr. Levi Gofwen expressed gratitude to the Governor for ensuring the prompt release counterpart funds.
Responding, the Managing Director of the firm, Apex Projects Limited Mr Emmanuel Ewah,assured that they will give their best in the execution of the project.
The traditional ruler of the area where the intervention is to take place, the Mishkagam Mangu, HRH Da John Hirse commended the Federal government, the state and the World Bank for coming to the aid of his people who have been suffering from the problems of erosion.
The ceremony was witnessed by members of the SPMU, SSC,STC as well as members of the press.
