Plateau state NEWMAP has inaugurated a 7 man RAP committee to commence the process of the RAP for the project affected persons (PAPs) in 2 of its sites of Mangu gully erosion site and Munchogopyeng gully erosion site.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Project Coordinator, Engr Levi Gofwen said the inauguration of the committee was in preparation for the kick off of the construction work on the approved sites. He tasked the committee to take the assignment seriously saying the future of the PAPs is solely dependent on the livelihood enhancement program.
The PC revealed that the 2 sites of Munchogopyeng gully erosion site and Mangu main market gully erosion site has been approved by the joint effort of the Federal and states governments as well as the World Bank for the commencement of civil works which the people have been longing for.
While commending the plateau state governor Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, the World Bank, NEWMAP @ the Federal and other stakeholders for ensuring that the project becomes a reality in the state, the PC noted that NEWMAP is set to achieve environmental sustainability in the state.
In his remark, the social and livelihood officer of the plateau state NEWMAP Mr Geoffrey Dasihatgave an overview of the RAP and functions of the committee.
The committee has a Director of flood/ Erosion in the state ministry of environment Mr. Isaac Pam as the Chairman with the SLO of the project as the Secretary and 4 other members.
