Recently NEWMAP featured in the World Bank/GEF Sahel and West Africa (SAWAP) Programme on Building Resilience through Innovation, Communications and Knowledge Services (BRICKS) Project.

The Training which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 18th -20 February, 2015 was designed to expand the sustainable management of land and water resources in twelve sub-Saharan countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan and Togo).

According to NEWMAP National Project Coordinator, Mr. Chikelo Nwune, the aim of SAWAP is to extend the sustainable management of land and water resources in targeted areas and vulnerable climatic zones in countries of West Africa and the Sahel. With SAWAP, the Bank provides support to the countries of the Sahel and West Africa in order to help increase their livelihoods while protecting natural resources, in the light of the climate variability and change.

Speaking at the event during a presentation on “Building Resilience through Innovation, Communications and Knowledge Services (BRICKS) Project NEWMAP Communication & Mobilization Specialist, Dr. Adebayo Thomas said that the programme was designed to promote collaboration and to consolidate the SAWAP Programme as well as facilitate the identification of innovations at regional and global level through communication, knowledge management and effective monitoring and evaluation.
