The Nigeria Erosion & Watershed Management Project crossed another Milestone on 5th April, 2017 with the Launch of the Project in Sokoto, the City of the Caliphate.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Commended the FG and the World Bank for this initiative, and support / assistance respectively.

Rt. Hon Tambuwal said the Launch of NEWMAP in Sokoto State marks the beginning of the rehabilitation of the Earth Dams in the state, especially the Lugu Dam “and this is a right move towards abundant foods supplies and economic self sufficiency.”

He said NEWMAP is coming to Sokoto at the right time given the need to restore and rehabilitate the Lugu Dam that serves over 3000 famers working on the farm land.

Earlier the NEWMAP Task Team Leader, Dr. Amos Abu commended the commitment of the State government for putting in place a solid state Project management Team, with sound minds as well as the seriousness shown with quick release of the states’ counterpart fund.

The NEWMAP project has earmarked about 6.5Billion for the restoration of the Watershed in the Lugu Dam area while the state has shown commitment of 1.33 Billion as counterpart contribution to this life saving project.
