The month of May 2015 will be most memorable for NEWMAP Project staff not only because of the anticipated change of governance from one democratically elected President to another but also because of the transition of leadership in the position of National Project Coordinator from erstwhile NPC; Mr. C.O. Nwune to the new Coordinator Mr. Salisu Dahiru.
Mr. Salisu Dahiru, Director of forestry and the head of the REDD+ action in Nigeria assumed office as the substantive National Project Coordinator of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
By this appointment Mr. Dahiru will bring to bear his experience in REDD + Programme which is the United Nations collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries.
Speaking during his first joint meeting at the FPMU Mr. Dahiru called for cooperation and unity. He assured the stakeholders that the project will be taken further towards the set Development Objective.
The new National Project Coordinator also commended the erstwhile National Project Coordinator, Mr. Chikelo Nwune for his efforts and professionalism in taken the project this far.
He said the proposed implementation support mission is to further enhance project delivery in the participating states and called for support from all and sundry.
