Civil works interventions of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project Enugu State being handled by ANBEEZ Services Limited have been commended.
The Project Coordinator Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) Enugu State, Barr. Vincent Obetta made the commendation while on official visit of Enugu NEWMAP gully erosion sites.
“I am excited and impressed on the quality of works at all the gully erosion sites visited today, and I believe that going by what is on the ground, the contractor will deliver on time”, he said.
Barr. Obetta explained that the routine visit of the gully sites where civil works interventions were ongoing was to ensure that contractors handling the erosion sites were working according to specifications.
On the issue of environmental safety guards at the sites, the Project Coordinator was not satisfied with what he saw.
He explained that the site engineer, and the Environmental Officer at the sites visited were not measuring up to World Bank specifications as regards to wearing of boots, helmets, and aprons amongst others.
Barr. Obetta made it clear that life of workers at the sites were very important to the Project, pointing out that World Bank does not play with life of workers at the site.
He urged the Environmental Officer, and site engineer to be more proactive and to adhere to World Bank specifications on environmental safety measures.
The Managing Director of ANBEEZ Services Limited Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu thanked the Project Coordinator for his routine visit to gully erosion sites. Engr. Onwuegbu promised that civil work interventions ongoing at the sites would be completed as scheduled.
He pointed out that all observations made by the Project Coordinator at the sites were noted and adequate corrections would be taken immediately.
The gully erosion sites visited by the Project Coordinator and his Technical Team include: Enugu Ngwo, Agbaja Ngwo, and Udi-Ozalla gully erosion sites. Those on site visit with the Project Coordinator include all the technical team of Enugu NEWMAP.
