


Gov.Willie Obiano yesterday met the World Bank Country Director Rachid Benmessaoud in company of the NEWMAP;s Task Team Leader, Dr.Amos Abu and other Bank’s Officials. Issues of the Banks involvement and attracting additional development project for the State was discussed among others. The Governor was accompanied by the Hon.Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Development Mark Okoye II.

Anambra Newmap State Project Management Unit (SPMU) today embarked on it’s routine site inspection to evaluate the progress made and provide guidance on issues on site, led by the State Project coordinator, Michael Ivenso the team visited the gully erosion sites at Abidi-Umuoji’ Ojoto and Nnewichi communities. Owing to His Excellency, the Governor of Kogi State’s determination to tackle the hydra-headed challenge of erosion and flooding in Lokoja, the State Capital, the Hon. Commissioner for Works and his Team, alongside the Project Coordinator, Kogi State NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, were today, at the Jakura Marble Industry culvert, along Kpata Market Road, behind the Ministry of Works, Lokoja, where there is budding gully threat, which if not nipped in the bud, could prove a menace in the nearest foreseeable future. It is hoped that, in partnership with the State Ministry of Works, the imminent danger being posed by the forming gully, would be a thing of the past… This desire for collaboration was reiterated by the Hon. Commissioner for Works, Alh. Ohere, who assured the people of the State, of the determination of the environment friendly Governor to tackle head-on, the menace of gully erosion in Lokoja, as well as other vulnerable parts of the State. The people of Agassa Community in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State were visibly elated with the familiarization visit to their community by the Catchment Management Plan (CMP) consultants (Mecon Geological and Engineering Services) working with Kogi State NEWMAP. They expressed their immense gratitude to NEWMAP for yet another initiative in alleviating the menace of gully erosion in their community. Highlights of the visit was the admistering of questionnaires to community members, tour of the entire gully site, and the handing over of the Site by Kogi NEWMAP to the Consultant. Better Days are indeed ahead… Kogi NEWMAP… Erosion Management Redefined!!!
