Recently, the World Bank Nigeria office organized a leadership training for the staff of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) at Barcelona Hotel, Abuja. This session to inculcate better working culture and focused output was the 2nd since the inception of the project.
The essence of the leadership training was to share knowledge on lessons learnt and equip project workforce with relevant tools and attitudes for a win win situation.
In his remarks, Dr. Bukar Hassan, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Environment represented by the National Project Coordinator, NEWMAP, Mr. Salisu Dahiru commended the World Bank for the program, stressing that capacity development becomes imperative to strengthening the knowledge, skills, and character of project staff towards achieving the desired project objectives.
Speaking during the opening session, Dr. Amos Abu, Task Team Leader appealed for a common vision and noted that the program was designed and organized in recognition that human element is key for successful project delivery. He therefore charged participants to imbibe good leadership qualities.
The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) was designed to reduce vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub-watersheds and to also improve physical environment and living conditions of people in the affected communities by providing economic livelihoods to the poor and affected people as well as address flooding and gully erosion issues.
Participants at the training include stakeholders from the public and private sectors, representatives from Federal Ministries, Department and Agencies, representatives from the World Bank as well as project staff from the fourteen NEWMAP states of Abia, Anambra, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Delta, Kano, Koji, Gombe, Sokoto, Plateau and Oyo.
