Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project(NEWMAP) in conjunction with the World Bank -South-South Knowledge Exchange (SSKE) organized an international conference on Geo-Spatial Technology tagged SSKE Knowledge Fair to celebrate 2017 world space week. The Conference with the theme “Exploring New Worlds in Space: Challenges and prospects for Nigeria was to further cement the SSKE cooperation and enhance knowledge sharing between China, India, and Nigeria.

 

Honourable Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril said that the objective of the conference was to provide unique leverage in space outreach and Geospatial education to numerous stakeholders, as well as provide necessary adjustments and other best practices solutions for NEWMAP integrated watershed activities that will enhance project implementation and delivery of the Project’s Development Objectives (PDO).

 

The well attended conference, drawn over 300 participants from MDAs, Private Sectors,Students, National Youth Corps Members, the Media, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries of states Ministries of Environment and NEWMAP Participating States Coordinators as well as representative from Indian and Chinese Governments.

 

Briefing participants earlier, Dr. Amos Abu, Senior Environmental Specialist and NEWMAP TaskTeam Leader (TTL) from the World Bank agreed that “there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in these three countries (Nigeria, China and India) and the World Bank –SSKE would support the transfer of applied research and development results in key areas of Geospatial Technology, Watershed Management, Infrastructure and Agriculture to build a sustainable environment where investments thrive and grow.
